The History of Teddy Bears.

Posted by icyimp

Quiet initially but increasingly louder, the raucous noise quickly proved to be nothing than my younger sister, all of 7, traipsing loudly down the trail from the house. As quickly as she was gone, Shane and I enthusiastically started winding our reels in. Both our stomach’s were growling at the concept of the meal to come. Shane and I ran down the trail, towards the noise, going just a little way before seeing my sister who was ripping back down the trail towards us. “What’s the matter?” Shane asked, putting his arm round her shoulder.

Her eyes were wide and wet with tears and she was shaking like the treetops in a thunderstorm. “I saw a bear,” she sniffled between tears and pointed down the trail. “Now, to teen boys trying to find journey, the concept of catching a bear was, well, virtually intolerable. Without saying anything, I ran back to the tent to go looking for anything even remotely helpful to bear-catching. The best I could do was a fishing pole and an old military blanket.

Now teddy bears are still the number 1 item to give babies as their first toy, the prize to win your girl on your first date, and most significantly, the toy of choice for law enforcement to give to kids in sorrowful, dangerous situations to help them unwind and feel safe. The best I could do was a fishing pole and an old military blanket. “Okay,” I asserted, “show us where this bear is. “We walked, slowly but each so stoicly down the line to where the bear was waiting. Naturally, we gave my poor sister never-ending grief for being fearful of a “little old stump. “we did not catch a bear that day but we still took something from that excitement. We took the lesson that most of what we fear doen’t truly exist, and if it does exist, it’s doubtless worse in our imagination than in fact.
